Your favorite dessert bread now made with less sugar and fat, and you won’t taste the difference! This Skinny Banana Bread recipe will be your new go-to!
Skinny Banana Bread Recipe
I was skeptical. I have a banana bread recipe I’m obsessed with. It’s better than Starbucks’ and when I make it with walnuts its better than any cake on the block! I don’t brag about many things, but that recipe will blow you away! But with the new year, I wanted to make some Skinny Banana Bread with the brown bananas on my counter calling my name. So I made this low fat and low sugar recipe! I wasshocked by how good it was! I mean, I guess it makes sense because the bananas keep the bread from getting dry.
Low Sugar Healthy Banana Bread
This recipe doesn’t have much sugar in it. Usually banana bread has a ton, but I scaled it way back to keep it as healthy as possible. You won’t notice the fat being gone but you will notice it’s less sweet. It didn’t bother me at all but if you ever want some more sweetness after you bake it you can add a drizzle of honey! I liked the less sweet version because I had a slice of banana bread and some greek yogurt for breakfast and it was a great way to start out my day. Usually I eat banana bread and feel a little guilty…like I’m eating cake! But this Skinny Banana Bread is guilt free!
Tips for Making the Best Banana Bread
As with any quick bread, the number one tip is to not over mix! If a recipe ever calls to add in chocolate chips, nuts, blueberries or anything at the end, always add it in before you’re finished mixing in the previous ingredient. For example, don’t wait to completely mix in your dry ingredients with your wet and then add in your walnuts and stir them in… that makes for more mixing than you need! Add in the walnuts when the dry ingredients are 75% mixed in! The more you stir, the tougher your bread will be, that’s why recipes and us bloggers always warn you about over mixing.
My next tip is about the bananas… make sure you’re ripe! The flavor changes as they ripen and those yellow peels with the brown marks make for the sweetest banana bread! If I have some bananas and I know I want to make bread in a few days, I’ll place them in brown paper bags to help speed up the process!
I switch back and forth from using my standard loaf panto using one that’s a few inches smaller.
I hope you enjoy my Skinny Banana Bread as much as I did! It’s a healthier version of one of my favorite things to make and I looooooved eating it. Though my husband stole the last 2 slices!! I guess I’ll just have to make some more…

Hey, I know I’m a little late, but I logged everything from the recipe into a nutritional calculator online and, assuming that this makes 10 slices, each slice should be around 175-190 calories depending on the ingredients, banana size, etc. that you use.

It may just depend on your baking pan too! Sometimes those can make a real difference in bake time!

Did some quick math, the total calories (rough estimate) for the whole loaf is around 1700 calories, 3 bananas- 300 cal, 1 egg – 72 cal, 3 T Br Sugar – 156 cal, 3 T Sugar 180 cal, 1 1/2 C Flour – 680 cal, 3 T Butter – 306 cal, 1T vanilla – 36 cal, Soda – 0 cal, powder – 2 cal . If you get 10 slices from the loaf, approx 170 cal. Correct me if I am wrong, Going to try to make this right now

If you add walnuts to the mix, figure 190 calories for 1/4 cup of nuts, making the total calories 1890 for the whole loaf.

Okay, I made it, and it turned out great! Very good taste, raised beautifully, used the walnuts, guessing around 150 calories per slice because I should get about 12 slices (thin) Thank you!Reply

Great but use more bananas very moistReply

I am sure I did something wrong as my bread came out doughy and tasted doughy. The bananas were black and I used unbleached flour. Could that have been the problem? I didn’t think I over mixed it, but maybe I did??Reply

This was great! I love my traditional recipe, but it is very greasy and sweet. This was just right for breakfast and didn’t leave me feeling heavy. I subbed 3 tbsp baking powder (total) for the baking soda, and it worked perfectly. Next time, I will probably add an extra banana!

I’ve been looking for a banana bread recipe for years, that tastes like my American grandma’s recipe back in 1977. But they are all either horrendously sweet, too fat or have a bunch of stuff in them that don’t belong in a banana bread. I tried yours the day before yesterday and, BINGO! It’s exactly as I remember it! She stored hers on the countertop, just turned over onto a cutting board with the pan over it and with a bread knife on top. And when it was gone, she’d whip up a new one. And mine’s gone already! It really is that good! 😋Reply

The recipe I use I changed out oil and used vanilla Greek yogurt and egg whites instead of whole eggs and I figured up I cut over 1000 calories off the recipe …… I need to try this recipe!!!

This is an amazing recipe, instead of using butter I used yogurt and substituted the sugars for 3 tbsp of stevia. I also used oats in a blender and mixed it up for flour. This is the best banana bread I have ever tasted!!Only 37 minutes in the oven.Reply

I was going to make this but it’s got sugar in it! So it’s not low sugar, as described after all. I would put granulated sweetener in but don’t know if it would affect the texture

I made these in mini aluminum tins and baked at 350 for 36 minutes. I used 1 cup of bananas. I made 3 mini loads with only bananas and 3 with frozen blueberries added to the original recipe. Very good. I am making another batch today and will be adding an extra banana and either blueberries or cranberries that I have in the freezer.Reply

I entered all the ingredients that I used in a calorie calculator and it came out to 153 calories per slice, for 10 slices. I made in a cast iron loaf pan and cooked 45 minutes, covered at 35 minutes with foil to prevent further browning. It was a little dryer than your usual banana bread but still good, next time I’ll probably add an extra banana to see if that helps.Reply

Tried making again, the same as before but added a 1/4 cup of plain fat free Greek yogurt and it came out moist and fluffy.Reply
