DeLoris Carlson, 96
DeLoris Eleanor Ruth Carlson, of Buffalo, Minnesota, age 96, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota. Born on November 14, 1927, in Starbuck, Minnesota, she was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Olson; siblings, Melvin, Orville, Edwin, Evelyn (Mattson), Violet (Hegland), Lloyd; her husband, Paul W. Carlson; daughter, Kathleen (Keppers); and grandson, Jerome Keppers.
She is survived by her son, John Carlson; granddaughter, Jennel Montgomery; grandson, Roger Austin; great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She left her home in Starbuck when she was just 17 years old. Arriving in Minneapolis, her work life eventually led her to a high-responsibility job as a buyer for the Brooklyn Center branch of the General Electric company. Having always enjoyed travel, she and her husband, Deacon Paul, made seven trips to the Holy Lands, with most of those trips seeing them serve as tour directors.
DeLoris was a fervent, church-going Christian, being raised in the Lutheran church, and eventually converting to Catholicism. She, along with her husband served through the Catholic Deaconate for 25 years. She continued attending chapel services up to the last days of her life. Her friends knew her as a warm, talkative companion, who would be willing to do anything she could, to help out a person in need, be they a friend or a family member. Her caring heart and gentle personality will be greatly missed.

Her final service will be held in the chapel at the Park View Care Center, 200 Park Lane, Buffalo, Minnesota, on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Reviewal will be at 9:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Refreshments and light snacks will be served after the service. Final committal and interment will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope, Minnesota.

Stella Huso, 105
Stella Huso, age 105, of Buffalo, MN and formerly of Big Lake, MN passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Stella was the nation’s oldest living Gold Star Mother.
She was born on January 8, 1919, in Portland, North Dakota the daughter of Torkel and Anna (Holmen) Torkelson.
She later met her husband, Ordin Huso and they were married on December 20, 1939. They moved to Mayville, ND, where they lived from 1939 to 1942. The young couple moved often, to Fosston, MN, then Deer River, later Henning, then to Big Lake, where the majority of their children attended schools and graduated from high school. From Big Lake, MN they moved to Hanover, MN where they built their own home – Stella even hammered some of the nails!
Stella celebrated her 105th birthday on January 8. She is the nation’s oldest living Gold Star Mother on record. Stella’s story is one of resilience, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to her family and country. She became a Gold Star Mother upon losing her son, Wayde, to an enemy artillery shell in Vietnam on August 13, 1969. After the tragic loss of her son, Stella became a relentless advocate for our nation’s veterans and their families. She has offered solace and support to countless military families in their darkest moments.
Survived by her daughter Diane Conti; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by sons Wayde Huso and Steven Huso; daughters RoseMarie (Huso) Kay and Trisha Seifert and her husband Ordin in 1997.
Funeral services for Stella Huso will be held on Friday, August 30, at 12:00 p.m. at Bethany Bible Church in Big Lake, MN. Pastor Mark Snider will officiate. Interment will be at Big Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, MN and at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Harold Lambert, 95
Harold L. Lambert, of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his own home on August 15, 2024, at the age of 95. Harold was born in Buffalo, MN, to August and Delorus (Knight) Lambert on February 26, 1929. Harold met Catherine, the love of his life, they married April 4, 1950, and had 11 children.
Harold was a loving father and grandfather, who was a dedicated hard worker and took pride in all that he did. He enjoyed taking road trips, riding his bicycle, walking and doodling around outside finding projects to complete, he enjoyed listening to country music and was knowledgeable about the artists, he was excited to watch the Twins, except when they lost. Harold was a kind, passionate person and loved to joke around, his humor was infectious.Harold retired from SuperValu after 38 years but continued working with his son at Lambert’s Landscaping & Sod for 21 years.
Harold is proceeded in death by his parents, August and Delorus (Knight) Lambert; four brothers; one sister; his wife of 74 years, Catherine Lambert; daughters, Mary Lambert, Susan Lambert-Smith, Sandra Neilsen; grandson, Gabriel Neilsen; in-laws, many nieces and nephews.
Harold is survived by his children, Shirley Finical, Cliff (Karla), Joan (Alan) Osburn, Judy (Scott) Dvorak, Roger (Christine), Tony (Liz), Donald (Nita), and Harold J. (Sue); 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister in-law; several nieces; nephews; and friends.Harold will be dearly missed by all.

Patty Leiseth, 81
Patty Leiseth, 81, of Ft. Madison, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in the care of her family and the staff of the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Patricia Ann Schutz Leiseth was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin on December 13, 1942, to Dorothy (Husby) and Herb D. Schutz. At the age of four, she began playing the piano, something at which she would excel and through which she would delight, inspire, and comfort others for most of her life. Patty was also known for her sharp mind and wit, her incomparable puns and recognizable laugh. Patty’s command of the English language manifested in the occasional poems she penned and the “Martha Mutton” column she ghostwrote for a trade journal.
After graduating with honors from Menomonie High School and Macalester College in Minneapolis, she began teaching music in Hopkins, Minnesota. Patty’s compassion and commitment to both excellence and innovation were foundations of her 40+ years-long education career. She taught thousands of students from elementary to college in both Music and English. Patty shared a particular compassion with nerds, outsiders, underdogs, and those suffering. Never one to sit still, Patty earned her Master of Education (English) degree from Macalester in 1972. Her career shifted increasingly to helping teachers teach, motivating Patty to earn a second Master’s in Information Media (St. Cloud State University) and a Certificate in Educational Technology (TIES). She retired from Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School in 2008. While recognized with many awards, what mattered to Patty was helping students, teachers, and staff.
Patty met the love of her life through a mutual friend in the summer of 1963. Engaged in less than a month, Patty and Keith Leiseth married on June 12 of 1964, forming a devoted and inseparable lifelong partnership. The couple had two children, Kjrsten and Jon. Patty’s dedicated care extended to many people, including family and friends facing challenges of all kinds. In retirement, Patty and Keith continued to enjoy the outdoors (including hunting, with Patty helping spot deer), making music, gardening, the Packers, and especially each other.
Patricia is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Keith; daughter, Kjrsten (Joel) Bobb, of Denmark, Iowa; and son, Jon (Tessa) Leiseth, of Moorhead, MN; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Tim (Jane) Schutz and their family; along with many other living family, friends, and former colleagues and students.
She was preceded in death by her parents, many family and friends.
A funeral service was held at Olson Funeral Home’s Chapel in Menomonie, Wisconsin, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Visitation preceded the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Graveside burial service was at Evergreen Cemetery and a light luncheon at Olson Funeral Home followed.

Marlis Maurer, 89
Marlis Betty Annette Maurer passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, in her home in Bastrop, Texas, at the age of 89. She was born on August 4, 1934, the sixth and youngest child of Frank and Elvera Olson, of rural South Haven, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lake Union (Swedish) Evangelical Covenant Church. She was raised on a resort on Lake Sylvia, which she always said was the best childhood experience she could imagine, especially since she loved to be near the water, and she loved to swim.
In 1953, she married Arnold Maurer of Fair Haven, Minnesota, and they lived in Minnesota until 1979, spending the majority of those years in Buffalo, Minnesota. While living in Buffalo, she spent several years transporting lunches to Hanover elementary school and serving them to the students. Because she loved being around children, she especially loved this job.
In 1979, she moved with her husband and youngest child to Texas where she spent the remainder of her life. Besides her love for children and family, she loved playing the piano and singing songs encouraging others to join with her. She especially loved playing hymns, since she loved praising her savior Jesus Christ. Another daily enjoyment of hers was feeding and watching cats and birds.
Marlis is survived by her husband, Arnold; along with her three children, Steve (Debi) Maurer, of Asheboro, North Carolina, Heidi Mattson, of Bastrop, Texas, and Bruce Maurer, of Nashville, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Erin, Scott, April, Bridget, Crystal, Justin, Kristin, Ryan and Kathryn; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; her 103-year-old sister, Doris Ashwill, of co*kato, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Richard (Eleanor) Maurer, of Buffalo, Minnesota; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elvera Olson; siblings, Vern (Shirley) Olson, Ardis (Howard) Prestige, Mavis (Don) Yerks, and Lloyd (Polly) Olson; brother-in-law, Marvin Ashwill; her husband’s parents, Emil and Caroline Maurer; and brother-in-law, Donald (Elaine) Maurer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Impact Fellowship, 816 TX-21, Bastrop, Texas 78602.

Tim Worel, 64
Tim Allen Worel, age 64, of Annandale, Minnesota, died suddenly of natural causes, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at his home in Annandale.
Tim Allen Worel was born in Robinsdale on October 16, 1959, to James and Evelyn (Johnson) Worel. He grew up in Crystal and graduated from Cooper High School with the class of 1977. He married Beverly Monsrud, and they were blessed with two boys (Brandon and Anthony). Tim worked for many years installing security systems for Honeywell. He had several other jobs after that, and most recently in manufacturing in Annandale. Tim had a passion for hunting and fishing, finding solace in the great outdoors. He leaves a legacy of love, hard work and the appreciation for nature that will continue with his loved ones.
Tim is survived by his sons, Brandon and Anthony Worel, both of Monticello; his siblings, Jack (Jan) Worel of Osseo, Kristine (Steve) Hanlon of Phoenix, AZ, Ken Worel of Grand Rapids, MN, Donna Finch of Flatrock, NC, and Deborah Worel of Hendersonville, NC; ex-wife, Beverly Monsrud of Monticello, and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Worel, and his niece, Sunny Lynn Worel.
