  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Swats third homer

    Rotowire

Taylor went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, an additional run and a walk against the Yankees on Wednesday in a 12-2 victory.

Taylor's biggest contribution was a three-run blast in the sixth inning that essentially put the game on ice, giving the Mets a 10-2 lead. It was the outfielder's first homer since April 24 -- a span of 42 games and 94 at-bats. Taylor has made two straight starts in right field with Starling Marte (knee) on the injured list, so he may have a chance to turn around what has so far been a quiet first season as a Met.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Perfect at plate in big win

    Rotowire

Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, three total runs and three total RBI in a 12-2 victory versus the Yankees on Wednesday.

Alvarez touched up Yankees starter Luis Gil for a two-run homer in the third inning and added a run-scoring double in the fifth. The catcher also singled for his third three-hit performance during his current nine-game hitting streak. Alvarez has been scorching during that stretch, batting .516 (16-for-31) with three home runs, nine RBI and a 7:7 BB:K. His slash line is up to an impressive .313/.383/.521 on the campaign.

    Stats

  • Mets' Adrian Houser: Records three-inning save

    Rotowire

Houser picked up a save in the Mets' 12-2 win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over three scoreless innings.

Houser entered with the Mets holding an eight-run lead and cruised the remainder of the way to notch the first save of his career. The right-hander threw 44 pitches in the outing, and he's tossed at least two frames in all but one of his eight appearances since returning to the bullpen May 26. Houser has thrived since making that transition, allowing just three earned runs across 20.2 innings.

  • Mets' Sean Manaea: Nabs win despite poor control

    Rotowire

Manaea (5-3) earned the win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing two hits and issuing five walks while striking out three batters over five scoreless innings.

Manaea was impressive in yielding just two hits -- both singles -- but allowed traffic in all but one of his five frames due to his struggle to throw strikes. The left-hander issued a season-high five free passes, but the Yankees bailed him out by grounding into three double plays. Manaea has been unable to pitch into the sixth inning in each of his past seven starts, though his shortish outing Wednesday was likely due to a fifth-inning rain delay after which he did not return.

  • Mets' Ty Adco*ck: Called up to Queens

    Rotowire

The Mets recalled Adco*ck from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Tigers in late May and will now receive his first look in the majors for the Mets. Adco*ck posted a 3.45 ERA over 15.2 frames in his first taste of the big leagues last year with Seattle, but he's struggled to a 5.82 ERA across 17 outings at the Triple-A level this season.

  • Mets' Drew Smith: Lands on injured list

    Rotowire

The Mets placed Smith on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right elbow sprain, retroactive to Monday.

Smith received an MRI after reporting tightness while playing catch earlier Wednesday. The severity of his injury remains unknown, but the Mets have already deemed the sprain worthy of a trip to the IL. Ty Adco*ck will come up from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the open spot in New York's bullpen.

  • Mets' Drew Smith: Undergoing MRI on forearm

    Rotowire

Smith will undergo an MRI after feeling tightness in his right forearm while playing catch Wednesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Smith missed a chunk of time earlier this season with a shoulder problem and now has another arm issue to contend with. The righty has been a high-leverage reliever for the Mets this season when healthy, posting a 3.06 ERA and 23:9 K:BB over 17.2 frames.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Starting against right-hander again

    Rotowire

Taylor will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The right-handed-hitting Taylor has started in both of the Mets' first two games in right field since Starling Marte (knee) landed on the 10-day injured list, even as the opposition has sent a righty to the bump both times. DJ Stewart will also be in the right-field mix while Marte is shelved, but Taylor looks to be the preferred option for now.

  • Mets' DJ Stewart: Out against righty again

    Rotowire

Stewart is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The Mets have faced two right-handers since Starling Marte (knee) went on the 10-day injured list and the left-handed-hitting Stewart hasn't started either one of them, as the club has gone with Tyrone Taylor in right field for both contests. While Stewart should still get his fair share of reps in the outfield while Marte is out, it's clear manager Carlos Mendoza isn't planning to use a strict platoon in right field.

  • Mets' Joe Hudson: Sent outright to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Mets outrighted Hudson to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Hudson cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. He didn't receive a plate appearance during his brief time with the Mets.

  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Picks up first career MLB win

    Rotowire

Nunez (1-0) gave up an unearned run on one hit and struck out two over 2.2 relief innings Tuesday to record the win over the Yankees.

The right-hander fired 21 of 28 pitches for strikes and didn't walk a batter after taking over from David Peterson in the fifth inning with the Mets ahead 6-1, eventually getting credited with his first career win in the majors. Nunez has been outstanding since his promotion in late May, delivering a 1.80 ERA, 0.53 WHIP and 19:1 K:BB through 15 innings and emerging as a key figure in the team's bullpen.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Nabs fourth steal

    Rotowire

McNeil went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

It's the 32-year-old's first multi-hit performance since June 9, with McNeil batting a brutal .088 (3-for-34) in between. The career .291 hitter is slashing just .216/.281/.298 on the season, and his lengthy slump -- as well as a hot start to Jose Iglesias' Mets tenure -- has put McNeil's playing time in a bit of jeopardy. He may need to string together a few more solid efforts to avoid losing his hold on even a strong-side platoon role at second base.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Gets start against righty

    Rotowire

Taylor went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

With Starling Marte (knee) landing on the injured list, Taylor and DJ Stewart are expected to split reps in right field. Instead of using a strict platoon, however, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza elected to deploy the right-handed Taylor against Gerrit Cole on Tuesday, perhaps prioritizing Taylor's superior defense. The 30-year-old is making a case for a bigger role with his bat as well, batting .273 (9-for-33) in June with three doubles, a triple, an RBI and five runs.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Stays hot Tuesday

    Rotowire

Nimmo went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run, a second run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

His two-run shot in the fourth inning was the Mets' fourth home run of the night, with all four coming off Gerrit Cole. Nimmo extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the blast, a stretch in which he's slashing .415/.478/.829 with five of his 12 homers on the season.

  • Mets' Harrison Bader: Strong showing from bottom of order

    Rotowire

Bader went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Yankees.

Hitting ninth in the order, Bader took Gerrit Cole deep in the second inning, one of four homers by the Mets off the Yankees' ace. The 30-year-old center fielder is slashing .273/.295/.545 through 18 games in June with three of his five homers and three of his 11 steals on the season.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Goes yard twice against Yanks

    Rotowire

Vientos went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Yankees.

The 24-year-old third baseman wasn't intimidated by the atmosphere in the Subway Series, or by the prospect of facing Gerrit Cole -- Vientos took the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner deep in the second and fourth innings to help the Mets build an early 6-0 lead. He's homered four times in the last five games, and through 19 games in June, Vientos has compiled a .275/.329/.565 slash line with six long balls, 12 RBI and 14 runs.

  • Mets' David Peterson: Fans eight in no-decision

    Rotowire

Peterson came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Yankees, allowing one run on three hits and five walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out eight.

Despite being staked to a 6-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning, Peterson wasn't efficient enough to qualify for his fourth straight win as he needed 103 pitches (62 strikes) to record his 13 outs. The southpaw has walked multiple batters in four straight outings but has mostly been able to limit the damage, and he'll take a 3.67 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB through 27 innings into his next start, which is currently scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Nationals. The Mets begin a stretch of 17 straight games without a day off Friday, however, which could require some juggling of the rotation.
