Leaders in Education and Health

The College of Education at UT Austin, ranked #8 among public institutions, offers two bachelor’s options for students seeking an undergraduate degree related to health, education or the business of culture, sport and entertainment: a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health. Within these two degrees, the college offers majors ranging from elementary teacher preparation to youth and community studies and applied movement science to sports management. The college also offers more than 15 minors, specializations and tracks that will enrich your undergraduate experience.

Bachelor of Science in Education

The College of Education offers four majors within the Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Through a unique combination of equity-minded coursework, students are guided by expert faculty and practitioners to manage, lead and teach in a variety of educational and communty-based environments. Students who choose one of the Bachelor of Science in Education majors with a teacher preparation component are also on their way to teacher certification at any grade level.

All-Level Special Education (Early childhood – 12th grade)

Learn to engage with students with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. This major prepares students to work with early childhood through 12th-grade students with disabilities.

Bilingual Core Subjects/Generalist (Early Childhood – 6th Grade)

Learn to teach students of linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds inside of bilingual classrooms. This major prepares students to teach in the areas of biliteracy, math, science and social studies through a sociocultural awareness. Fluency in Spanish is required before starting the program.

English as a Second Language Generalist (Early Childhood – 6th Grade)

Learn to teach students of linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds at the elementary level. This major prepares students to teach in the areas of literacy, math, science and social studies through a sociocultural awareness.

Youth and Community Studies

Focus on interacting and engaging with children and youth in a variety of disciplines and contexts. Students will have the option to pursue specializations in early childhood, special populations or youth and social services. Graduates with this degree are prepared to engage with children as counselors, teachers and youth leaders.

Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health

The College of Education offers five majors within the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health degree. Through a combination of physical, health-equity and community-minded learning, KHE students have the opportunity to study a wide-range of areas such as human movement, health behavior and the business and culture of sports. Many of our graduates go on to become physical therapists, teachers, coaches, trainers, researchers and more.

Applied Movement Science

Study the basic and applied movement sciences as you prepare for a career in health and fitness, personal training, strength and conditioning, sports performance, coaching and physical activity or public health.

Exercise Science

This major is ideal if you are interested in health professions and sport sciences. You will be prepared to go on to earn graduate and professional degree or pursue a career in fitness, health and sport thanks to the applied nature of the program.

Health Promotion and Behavioral Science

Explore concepts of public health and health promotion from an interdisciplinary perspective. You will develop a strong foundation in theory, epidemiology, program planning and evaluation. Many of our graduates go on to careers in public health, community or university health promotion, government, non-profit health agencies, or graduate and professional education in a variety of fields.

Examine the world of sport and physical culture from a humanities and social science perspective. Courses in this program focus on the philosophy, history, sociology and ethics of physical activity and sport culture.

Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training

This degree prepares students to become athletic trainers in the state of Texas who are focused on the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries related to physical activity. Athletic Training is also appropriate for those interested in continuing their education in medicine, sports medicine, physical therapy and other healthcare professions.
